A violin making competition where the course is more beneficial than the results. Carve a violin scroll in one day. Become a judge. Everything is transparent.

12.6.2025 Here is the renumbering key of the competing instruments from the tone test.
If you still have your scoring sheet, you can find out what points you gave to which instruments according to their starting numbers.
10.6.2025 From the very beginning, our competition has proudly been based on the principle of fair play. As we
received an anonymous notification that the winning violin was awarded another prize in the past which, if true,
would have been a violation of our Rules, we feel obliged to address this matter openly and immediately.
The award concerned is the Simone Fernando Sacconi Prize at the Triennale competition in Cremona 2024. The Regulations
of the Triennale competition state exactly: The Municipality of Cremona will award the “Simone Fernando Sacconi” prize,
consisting of a gold medal, to the contestant under 30 years of age on 31/12/2024 who, according to the final decision
of the Jury, is considered the most deserving.
Gregg Alf, Chairman of our Jury: Following consultation with Dr. Bodini, President of the Jury for the Triennale
competition, I can confirm that the Sacconi Award is given to a contestant, not to a specific instrument. While certain
qualifications must be met, the recipient does not necessarily need to have won a medal in the competition. Rather, the
award is granted to the contestant deemed most deserving by the jury. In light of this, it is my view that if an instrument were submitted to the Prague competition by a maker who had
received the Sacconi Prize - as long as that particular instrument had not also been awarded a medal - we would have
accepted it without issue. In this context, the anonymous complaint appears to be based on a misinterpretation of the rules and is therefore
ungrounded. Furthermore, I believe that the winner of our competition deserves not only objective fairness, but also
a status of honor within our competition - and, when ungrounded accusations arise, a defense of that honor. Therefore we declare herewith that the winning violin by Pawel Kubacka was submitted to our competition properly.
Pawel Kubacka fully deserves all prizes received and the final results will not change.
8.6.2025 Thank you all participants, partners and friends for the fantastic atmosphere we experienced.
Please find a link to many great pictures taken during the event on the
Photo page. Getting so much positive feedback, we believe this
competition was a success and hope to be able to prepare another one in future. Have fun on violin making! Dalibor & Jan
11.5.2025 3 places in the competition became available. If you are interested to participate, are able to prepare
an instrument and material for the scroll, let us know imediately with email!
28.4.2025 We have a new poster and work hard on further printed materials.
11.4.2025 Themes for the lectures and discussions on Saturday were chosen. Please see details here.
Open to the public, do not miss!
15.2.2025 We have no further appliants on the waiting list. In case someone gives up, which is possible, there will be
nobody to replace him/her, which is pitty! We invite any further interested violin makers to apply at least for the
waiting list! Please contact us with email.
15.1.2025 All jury members confirmed that they will attend the scroll carving contest along the
competitors! Of course they will do out of the competition. However, for all participants this will be a great chance
to see and compare the work of these respected masters.
1.12.2024 We innovate the marking system. As 40 participants and 3 judges mark 40 instruments and 40 scrolls at the same time,
the amount of numbers to be calculated is really great. Last time we struggled entering them all manually to the system.
Therefore this time each evaluating person will submit his/her points to the system electronically using his/her smart
phone, ipad or notebook. Only internet connection will be needed and a link to the relevant form which will be published
on this site in time.
15.8.2024 Dear applicants and colleagues, we are very pleased with the great interest in our competition.
We are surprized how quickly the start list became full. Now the capacity of the contest is complete and
the applications are closed.
5.4.2024 The VI. year of this unique event is being prepared intensively. It will take place in June 3 - 7, 2025.
The venue will be The Czech Museum of Music, as in 2017. The details of the programme are still being adjusted,
however the basis is set clear: Again the scroll carving contest will take place and the competitive instruments
(violins after model Stradivari) will be judged by the respected professional jury
togethetr with the competitors. Please see the all-star jury here!
